Justice Beyond The Binary
The Task:Design and develop an approachable, inclusive website for Justice Beyond the Binary — a legal resource created to support non-binary and gender-diverse people navigating the justice system. The goal was to present complex legal information in a way that felt friendly, accessible, and empowering. Working collaboratively with the project team and a commissioned artist, we aimed to balance clarity and creativity, ensuring the site felt welcoming while maintaining readability and trustworthiness.
The Solution
This project was all about creating a space that felt both informative and safe — a resource where non-binary and gender-diverse people could find clear, practical legal guidance without feeling alienated by formal or intimidating design. We approached the site with accessibility and empathy at its core, developing a layout that prioritised readability, simple navigation, and inclusive language.
Working closely with the Justice Beyond the Binary team, we collaborated with a talented illustrator to bring warmth and individuality to the design. The illustrations became an integral part of the visual identity — adding humanity and approachability to what could otherwise be a heavy subject. Our role was to ensure these creative elements were seamlessly integrated into a cohesive interface, maintaining balance between personality and clarity.
Built in WordPress, the site uses flexible content structures to make it easy for the team to update information and add new resources as laws and projects evolve. The final result is a welcoming, empowering online resource that combines thoughtful design, community-led collaboration, and strong accessibility — reflecting the values of inclusivity and justice at the heart of the project.
