Project Yes
The Task:Project YES is an initiative by James Cook University designed to teach financial literacy and practical life skills to young people and underserved communities. JCU needed a brand and website that felt modern, inclusive, and genuinely engaging—something miles away from the dry, institutional tone typical of financial education. The brief asked for a complete visual identity, a flexible online platform for learning resources, and a user experience tailored to hard-to-reach audiences, including young people, parents, and educators. The brand needed energy, clarity, and an approachable tone that helped break down barriers around money management and confident decision-making.
The Solution
I developed a bold, contemporary brand system centred around the name YES!, leaning into colour, movement, and optimistic language to keep the content accessible and fun. From there, I designed and built a WordPress website with a clear, modular structure that JCU staff can update easily as the program grows. The site houses financial literacy tools, lessons, and downloadable resources, all wrapped in a clean user interface designed to reduce cognitive load and support quick navigation.
A major focus was ensuring the site met the needs of disengaged or anxious learners. This meant strong typography, plain-language content, clear pathways for parents and educators, and visual cues that support sustained attention. The final result gives Project YES! a confident, future-proof digital presence and a brand that feels energetic, modern, and genuinely welcoming—helping JCU deliver financial skills to communities who need them most.
