The Cathedral School

The Task:Redevelop The Cathedral School website to create a smoother, more intuitive user experience while making content management far easier for the internal team. The goal was to modernise the site’s structure and improve usability for families, staff, and prospective students — all within the constraints of the school’s existing brand guidelines. With limited flexibility for visual design changes, the focus shifted to optimising layout, navigation, and functionality to better support the school’s communication needs and simplify ongoing updates.

The Solution

Working within The Cathedral School’s existing brand guidelines, our approach focused on usability, structure, and long-term maintainability. While visual changes were limited, we completely reimagined the site architecture to make it easier for both visitors and administrators to find and manage information.

We began with detailed sitemapping to simplify the navigation and improve the user journey for families, staff, and prospective students. This process helped consolidate content, reduce duplication, and ensure that key information — such as enrolment, curriculum, and community updates — was easily accessible from any device.

On the backend, we rebuilt the site in WordPress using a flexible, modular structure powered by custom ACF blocks. This gave the Cathedral team far greater control over their content, allowing them to easily update pages, add new sections, and maintain brand consistency without technical input.

Throughout the process, we prioritised performance, accessibility, and a clean interface that complemented the existing brand identity. The end result is a polished, user-friendly website that delivers a smoother experience for visitors and a vastly improved workflow for the school’s internal team — achieving a major functionality upgrade within tight design constraints.
